Is it true that rodents do not like the smell of mint?

I have heard that mint scented trash bags are a good way to repel rodents.

S.T.

Is it true that rodents do not like the smell of mint?
Depends on how hungry they are. If they're starving, nothing will deter them. Best defense, a scattergun.
Reply:Heard that about cats but not rodents. You are better off with steel wool and moth crystals. Stuff the steel wool in any holes and openings the rodent can squeeze through and sprinkle the crystals around floor boards. Good Luck!

How many State Quarters from each mint?

The US Mint's web site tells how many of each state quarter they produced. But is there somewhere else where I can find out how many at each mint (Denver and Philadelphia)?

For example the Delaware quarter: X# minted in Denver, Y# minted in Philadelphia. And so on, for each state.

How many State Quarters from each mint?
You're on the right track. The US mint does keep these mintages on their website. Click various years for production numbers.
Reply:There is one web site for the U.S. mints. There are actually 4 at this point. Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco %26amp; west point. The site should give you the state quarter mintages of the circulation strikes from Philly and Denver, the proof mintage from San Francisco both in clad and silver and the number of mint sets for since 2005 the mint sets have a satin finish so the state qurters in them have that finish also. The 1999-P Delaware quarter had a mintage of 373,400,000, 1999-D 401,424,000, 1999-S clad 3,713,359 %26amp; the 1999-S silver 804,565. The satin finish coins did not start to the 2005 ones and only in mint sets.

Appetizers to serve with Mint Bailey's Chocolate Martini?

I am hosting a games night on the weekend, and recently came across the recipe for Mint Bailey's Chocolate Martinis (Vodka, Baileys, white chocolate liqueur, chocolate syrup).

I want to start the evening with these, and I am sure some people will stick to them all night. I am a bit puzzled as to what appetizers to serve that will compliment these drinks; any ideas?

Appetizers to serve with Mint Bailey's Chocolate Martini?
Pieces of pound cake

Cheesecake bites

Butter cookes

The drinks are sweet and chocolately so anything that would go good with chocolate and mint
Reply:Well, it is the season for girlscout cookies...and the "thinmints" would definatly compliment your cocktail, plus you would be supporting your community :) You can usually find girlscouts selling boxes in front of grocery stores or your city's courthouse.
Reply:I'm thinking that, unless you want everyone to be in a drunken diabetic coma, you might want to save this delightful drink to serve at the dessert portion of your games night. Perhaps, create a more traditional martini, old-fashioned, etc. to serve during the bulk of the appetizer eating. :) Here are some ideas for food:

1. Spinach dip with crackers and baguette slices

2. Lil smokies in puff pastry: using Pillsbury crescent roll dough, separate each section and cut into 4ths. Wrap around lil smokies and place on baking dish. Bake until golden brown and serve with bbq sauce.

3. Meatballs in a marinara sauce in a sourdough bread bowl. Serve with parmesan and extra sauce.

4. Chicken and green chili quesadillas, cut into wedges.
Reply:do a few different kinds of mini desserts. Chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate covered pretzel rods, mini cheesecake cups, mini cupcakes. YUM! :)
Reply:I would say something salty since they will be sweet. Homemade trail mix or air popped corn with different spices for flavoring for something easy. Crispy, cheesy wontons would be good. An onion tart would be another good idea.

I would also suggest having other drink options... Personally, I could only drink one martini that is that sweet.
Reply:definetly something sweet, some kind of pound cake or tort?
Reply:thin wafer butter cookies, fresh strawberries %26amp; other fruits, angel food cake, etc..
Reply:That sounds more like a dessert drink. I don't think anyone would want too many, they sound filling.

Where can I buy mint flavored tooth picks?
A store like Target or CVS should have them. Even try the market. I remember buying mine from there. If you cannot find them, kindly ask an employee at the restaurant where they got them and they will receive the answer from their manager. Good luck!
Reply:You can buy them at stores that sell kitchen ware and pots and pans, also, you might try Linens %26amp; Things., they have a lot of different items like mint toothpicks.

I need a whitening toothpaste, but it can't be mint flavored. Does anyone know of a kind?

Is there a good whitening toothpaste that isn't mint flavored?
Tom's of Maine has a whitening toothpaste that is Cinnamon-Clove or Orange-Mango. It is the Whole Care line. It not only whitens but prevents cavities and tarter build up.

It's a natural toothpaste that works, I love it!!!

Check it out at http://www.tomsofmaine.com
Reply:Colgate salt pest you can try
Reply:Without mint few pest one of Babul and Dabar pest is also without mint
Reply:I drink coffee and it has yellowed my teeth. I was told to take a tablespoon or so of hydrogen peroxide and swish it through your teeth for a few minutes and it will whiten your teeth and correct gum disease. I did it and it works. I do this after my morning coffee!

have you tried any banks?
Reply:Try the Federal Reserve Bank in your area. The mint dose sell coins with special wrappers, but only certain ones. You need to check their web site, for what is available at this time. I know boxes of the westward nickels were available, for I have seen them. You can also try your bank, for they may order them from the Federal Reserve Bank for you. Some banks are better than others in this aspect.

Can I add mint to my roll your own cigarettes?

I use a tube shooter to make my own cigarettes. I usually smoke camel frosts or marlboro smooths but could i roll in some dried mint (or some other kind of spice) to try and make the taste the same? would that give me a headache?

Can I add mint to my roll your own cigarettes?
Sure, you could. I believe the 'all natural' tobacco substitutes have mint in them, along with other herbs and stuff.

They also have mint flavored papers (and chocolate, cherry, etc.).

You can also buy menthol tobacco, and mix it with regular, if all menthol is too strong.

I used to put a few strands of cherry pipe tobacco into my rolled cigarettes, that was good, a subtle taste.
Reply:its worth a try mate
Reply:You can roll up anything you want there sparky !
Reply:Could give you a headache, but it would probably be better than menthol.
Reply:I've got a better idea...

How do you make Olive Garden's Lime Mint Fresco?

I recently had dinner out at Olive Garden and with my meal I ordered a 'Lime Mint Fresco' and it was delicious! Any one have an idea how to make it?

I am a huge fan of Mojitos and so if you have a good recipe for a Mojito then include that too. Thanks!

How do you make Olive Garden's Lime Mint Fresco?
I couldn't find anything online. The next time you're at OG, ask them for the recipe.

Mojito recipe:

3 fresh mint sprigs

2 tsp sugar

3 tbsp fresh lime juice

1 1/2 oz light rum

club soda

In a tall thin glass, crush part of the mint with a fork to coat the inside. Add the sugar and lime juice and stir thoroughly. Top with ice. Add rum and mix. Top off with *chilled* club soda (or seltzer). Add a lime slice and the remaining mint, and serve.

Has anyone got a good recipe for Indian mint sauce to serve with poppadom's.?

Have tried a few but never quite the same. I know it should be mint and yoghurt but in what quantites ??

Grateful for any foolproof suggestions anyone has.

Thanks

Has anyone got a good recipe for Indian mint sauce to serve with poppadom's.?
1 cup plain yogurt

1/4 cup fresh mint, minced

1 clove garlic, minced

Combine yogurt, mint, and garlic in small bowl.

Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Kevin's Mint Yogurt Sauce

1 container plain yogurt

1 teaspoon made up mint sauce

1 tablespoon sweet mango chutney

1 teaspoon sugar

1/4-1/2 teaspoon chili powder (to taste)

1/2 teaspoon garam masala

milk, for, thinning

Mix all ingredients thoroughly using milk to thin to taste.

Place in refrigerator for one hour to cool.

Serve over kebabs, pakora, samosas, tikkas, or with any other Indian starter.

Cumin Mint %26amp; Coriander Yogurt

300 ml plain yogurt

1 teaspoon ground cumin

2 tablespoons fresh mint, chopped

2 tablespoons fresh coriander, chopped

1 long green chilies, seeded and finely chopped

sea salt

fresh ground black pepper

lightly toasted cumin seeds

Stir together the yogurt, ground cumin, mint, coriander, ginger and chilli.

Season well and sprinkle with cumin seeds.
Reply:Mint Sauce

What you need is:

A smallish bunch of fresh mint: pluck the leaves and wash them.

A smallish bunch of fresh coriander - stalks and leaves together - washed.

One "tangy" or "sour" apple - e.g. "Granny Smith's" - halved and de-seeded.

One medium-size onion chopped into a few pieces. (Red onion is best.)

A couple of small fresh green chillies - with top stalk removed. (Remove seeds if you like.)

A few dashes of lemon juice.

A generous dollop/long-squirt of brown sauce.

Some salt and pepper.

A teaspoon of sugar.

You will especially love plucking the mint leaves from their stalks - the smell left behind on your hands and fingers is just heavenly!

Put all the ingredients (except the sugar) into a food-blender like in the picture below and zap it all up using pulse bursts until it's pureed. Use a long spoon to stir the mixture about if the blades of the blender have difficulty "grabbing" the chunks of ingredient. When it's pureed to a thick-ish consistency - transfer to a small bowl and stir in a teaspoon of sugar or tomato ketchup - tasting and adding more if necessary until you feel that the taste is just right. Put it in the fridge so that it sets slightly - and serve with any Indian dish or fried savoury snack! Very tasty!

1 cup chopped mint

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, chopped

1 tablespoon garlic, chopped

1 tablespoon green chilies, chopped

2 tablespoons desiccated coconut

salt

1/4 cup lemon juice

Grind all the ingredients with a little water.

If you wish to create a mint sauce which looks like the stuff that you get in the condiment carousel at Indian restaurants when you have crispy poppadoms or onion bhajis as a starter - you should get some plain natural yoghurt - put a couple of tablespoons into a small dish and and stir in a couple of dollops of the above mint chutney and stir it all around until the consistency is thin and liquidy to your liking. No need for food colourings or any other additives. Enjoy!
Reply:Well, I myself am Indian, and I always buy the mint chutney from the Indian grocer, and now they even stock it in some Stop and Shops. If you are in the Northeast, you should have no problem finding an indian grocery store! Message me if you live in MA and I have some suggestions.

Also, the Swad brand is the best I've tried so far...

Stop and Shop usually has Patak's brand which is not bad if you don't want to travel!!!

Although it is always nice to make it from scratch, the jarred mint chutney is a perfect substitution, and it stays in your fridge for a lot longer than the homemade version that we end up throwing away!

Who makes an after dinner mint shaped like a cylinder with assorted citrons in the center?

At a diner I frequent, they have these fgreat mints that are shaped like cylinders and have citrons in the center. The mint itself is sooo soft it melts in your mouth. anyone know who makes them and where to get them??

Who makes an after dinner mint shaped like a cylinder with assorted citrons in the center?
I find Richardson's Jelly mints http://www.richardsonbrands.com/pc-14-2-... , and HospitalityMints with jelly centers http://www.candywarehouse.com/jellymints... http://www.hospitalitymints.com/Products... they are both supposed to be quite soft. Both mints say 'since 1893.' Richardson's seems to have licorice flavor, lemon flavor, mint flavor and orange flavor centers, while HospitalityMints has only lemon, orange and mint centers.

There might be other manufacturers, these seem to be the two 'biggies' that fill the first pages of my search. Hope this helps!

Why does most toothpaste have mint flavors?

I hate mint flavor. I've tried only one flavor which I love, Colgate bananna. No mint. I can't find it in the stores very often, because everything else is some kind of mint flavor. Lemon mint, cinnamin mint, mint here mint there everywhere mint mint. What's the deal? Did the toothpaste marketing team take a survey and use only mint obsessed people for their research?

Why does most toothpaste have mint flavors?
Ya know,I do agree with you...good question.Maybe some dental people will see this and answer!! I only found Colgate banana once and also liked it. I have been told that mint keeps your breath fresher longer so that is probably the case.
Reply:because mint is refreshing and it makes your breath smell better than fruity flavords like banana. but whtever toothpaste you use, at least your using toothpaste! :D

Would mint concealer be good to cover up pimples or is it just used to cover up any redness?

i want to order the everyday minerals sample kit and i want to see if the mint concealer would work.

Would mint concealer be good to cover up pimples or is it just used to cover up any redness?
It can cover both but if you dont wash it throughoughly enough your acne problem will skyrocket lol
Reply:try physician's formula out.. they have a concealer that is green on one end for redness and then the other side of the tube is regular... if that works for you then order the everday minerals.
Reply:it works when your pimple is all red then you can put coverup un top of it and it does a good work
Reply:it really just works on redness but try it anyways... different things work for different people. i use toothpaste at night for mask...
Reply:that stuff works REALLY well for me, its a lifesaver! I usually put cover up on top of it just in case, but I don't really need it after I put enough of the green stuff on, and sometimes it depends on the zit.
Reply:well, a pimple would still mean that the area on your skin is going through some kind of irritation, so the mint concealer may actually help :)

Is there a difference between spearmint and mint leaves at the grocer.?

I am able to find mint leaves and am not sure if they are the same as spearmint leaves.

Is there a difference between spearmint and mint leaves at the grocer.?
Why do I always end up following these humongous answers in this section?? OMG.

I doubt they would be spearmint, unless the sign specified that they were. They would be closer to peppermint if there is no designation.
Reply:MInt- cool, refreshing images come to mind: frosty glasses of lemonade garnished with curly sprigs of spearmint; the clean, chilling taste of a peppermint candy cane; Southern gentlemen and ladies sitting in their rocking chairs on the veranda, lazily rocking back and forth, fanning themselves and sipping Mint Juleps. Even chewing gum, mouthwash, and toothpaste companies use images of crisp, clean snowy slopes, or cool, green glens to let us know how refreshing their mint flavored products are.

Most of us are most familiar with peppermint (Mentha piperita) and spearmint (Mentha spicata), yet beyond that there are about 25 species, with some sources saying as many as 600 varieties. Native to the Mediterranean and western Asia, mints interbreed so easily it is often hard for even the experts to distinguish and separate all the varieties. This confusion dates back as far as the 9th century when a monk proclaimed he "would rather count the sparks in Vulcan's furnace than to count the varieties of mint."

One characteristic shared by all mints is the square stem, a trait of the Labiatea family of which marjoram, catnip and basil are also members. Another is the volatile oil menthol, which gives mint that characteristic cooling, cleansing feel to varying degrees in the different varieties.

Curious to see what types of mint were available, I went for a "tasting" to one of the nurseries in my area that is known for carrying specialty plants. I was pleasantly surprised with their large and diverse selection: apple mint, chocolate mint, spearmint, peppermint, pineapple mint, Bergamont orange mint, Egyptian mint, basil mint, Corsican mint, Persian mint, and ginger mint -- truly an herb gardener's dream come true!

I started with dessert first, tasting the deep green, blade-shaped leaves of the Chocolate Mint. It was like biting into one of the old style Girl Scout chocolate mint cookies -- rich, chocolatey and cooling mint all in one bite. This would be a good one to chop finely and incorporate into softened vanilla ice cream, then top with fresh raspberries for an easy summer dessert.

Next I sampled the Pineapple Mint (Mentha sauveolens varigata). Its softly rounded, fuzzy leaves with a splash of yellow on the edges make this a very decorative, as well as tasty, addition to any garden. The flavor is mild: mint with a slight citrus background. It goes well with melons, and cucumbers, and makes an attractive garnish, either fresh or crystallized. In the garden, be sure to plant it in the shade as it tends to scorch in the full sun.

Bergamot Mint (Mentha piperita var. critata) caught my interest next. It is known as lemon mint, orange mint, or eau de cologne mint. With its sweet citrusy, lavender-like aroma and taste, it is a natural for flavoring teas or ice beverages. Its hardy flavors make it a tasty accent for lamb and fish. Bergamot mint is also used to scent soaps and perfumes, hence the name "eau de cologne" mint.

Ginger mint (Mentha spicata species) is another mint that is as attractive as it is tasty, with its heart-shaped light green leaves variegated with gold. It's perfect as a seasoning for both fruit and vegetables.

Finally on to the king of all mints: Peppermint (Mentha piperita). The potent taste of the leaves -- very strong menthol -- took my breath away. Very cool and clean indeed. I tend to use it, sparingly, with sweet dishes: candies, meringues, cookies, cakes and iced tea.

Peppermint is the mint that is most often used commercially -- in liqueurs, toothpastes, soaps, and mouthwashes -- because of its strong, pure qualities. In medicines, it is used not only as a pleasant flavoring, but also because it contains healing properties as well. The menthol is wonderful for clearing up a stuffy head cold, relieving headache, as well as being a strong digestive aid and a mild sedative.

Spearmint (Mentha spicata), with its sharp, pointed, toothed leaves is one of the most versatile of the mints. With its less intense, more herb-like flavor, it pairs well with a wide spectrum of foods. Combined with orange peel in vinegar, it serves as a marinade for lamb as well as a dressing for spring salads. Combined with basil, mint adds the cooling element to many hot Asian dishes. Mixed with bulgar, red onions, tomatoes, parsley, and a lemony vinaigrette, it becomes Tabbouleh, a Middle Eastern salad perfect for summertime picnics. Nothing says spring quite so deliciously as freshly steamed new peas with a sprinkling of mint. Carrots, potatoes, eggplant, white or black beans, and corn all sparkle with the addition of freshly chopped spearmint. And nothing but just picked mint will do for the properly made Mint Julep, the making of which, as said by a 19th century Southern gentleman, "is not a rite to be entrusted to a novice, a statistician, nor a Yankee."

Mint has been known as both a seasoning and a medicine for centuries. Mint is even a part of Greek mythology. According to the legend, Minthe originally was a nymph, and Pluto's lover. When his wife Persephone found out, in a fit of rage she turned Minthe into a lowly plant, to be trod upon. Pluto could not undo the spell, but softened the spell by giving her a sweet scent which would perfume the air when her leaves were stepped upon.

Growing mint is a simple proposition; it is keeping it from taking over the garden that takes work. Given medium rich, moist soil and shade to dappled sunlight, mint will thrive and soon form a lush, thick carpet. Keep it cut back, especially once it begins to bloom, otherwise it will become invasive. Since many of the varieties propagate from underground runners, you may have to just pull out wandering plants. Most mints thrive as house plants as well.

So whether you choose the varigated varieties for color and spiciness; spearmint or peppermint for a deep green carpet and their versatility in the kitchen; or Coriscan mint for its tiny leaves that make a delicate matt in between stepping stones, be sure to carefully read the tags at the nursery as a starting point, but let your taste buds be your guide!

What is the value of a New Hampshire state quarter w/o a mint mark and an error with the word free-only fre?

New Hampshire state quarter w/ errors with the word "free"-only printed/stamped "fre" and no p or d mint mark-blank area where the mint mark is supposed to be. Looking for a professional answer from a coin dealer of the value of this coin, not junk, please! All the other state quarters I have have either the p or the d mint mark on them. I have every state quarter there was ever issued.

Go get it appraised. It sounds like it's only a small flaw, so probably won't get a lot. Some misstrikes are worth thousands, so keep you fingerscrossed. The older the coin is the more valuble also.

What is a good method to keep mint leaves fresh? I work in a bar and we are having problems keeping mint fresh

We get our fresh mint for our mojitos in once a week and we are having trouble storing the mint leaves over the course of the week. When kept in the refrigerator it tends to make it worse anyone have any suggestions or easy methods for storing the mint leaves?

What is a good method to keep mint leaves fresh? I work in a bar and we are having problems keeping mint fresh
put them in a jar then put in sliced apple or potatoe this will keep mint fresh. change apple potatoe as needed
Reply:There is actually a product called "Minty Fresh" that mint leaves can be stored in in order to stay fresh. It's sold at a small local grocery store here, but I'm sure larger stores sell it as well.
Reply:You could pick a handful daily and keep in a glass of water like a bunch of flowers, doubles as decoration.
Reply:i think someone else mentioned this... if you buy the whole mint, stalks and leaves, cut the stems about 1/4 to 1/2 in off and place them in clean water, like you would flowers. you can keep them in the bottom portion of the fridge where it's not as cold. they'll keep for a couple of days longer and the leaves won't get bruised. i do this with many of my fresh herbs.
Reply:Just keep them in ice water, but do not pick them. Leave them on the stems! And you have to be gentle with them as they bruise easily and will look damaged. Hope this works for you. Also do not purchase alot, just what you need to get by.
Reply:The company that sells the mint leaves to you might have an idea on storing them.
Reply:See if you can get a plant for the bar so you can take fresh clippings off it as you need them.
Reply:Put the leaves, stems and all, into a vase of water and place the glass near a sunny window by day and then bar side at night. De-stem and use the leaves as required, the rest in the vase will give the bar a wonderful aroma!
Reply:If you can get the whole branch of mint you can put it in a vase of water and it will stay fresh - just be sure to change the water every day.
Reply:Don't store them. Buy less quantity more frequently.
Reply:You probably get them by pound or bunch and inside a plastic bag. That is the first enemy for fresh herbs, this if you don't go through them quick enough. So what we do at the restaurant I work,we get them out separate them into smaller bunches them wrapped them loosely on paper towels, and them in a Ziploc bag. This will keep them fresh for about 5/6 days, all because they are cool and dry.
Reply:keep it in a paper sack in fridge when in use use ice water
Reply:try having them wrapped in wet paper towels. also you could easily grow them and keep that very fresh and wash. keep them in a cup out of the very cold like the frig. mint leaves don't like that.

hayes

Do you have to get a micro card for the Blue Mint LG Chocolate phone in order for the music to work?

I am thinking of getting the new verizon wireless LG Blue Mint Chocolate phone mostly because it looks really cool and it has lots of features on it. Do you have to get a micro card thing in order for the music feature to work? If it's absolutely required or I can't download songs, how much is it?

Do you have to get a micro card for the Blue Mint LG Chocolate phone in order for the music to work?
the extra memory card allows you to store more songs etc on it than the on-board phone memory. Usually the cards are relatively cheap. (like $18 for 1G).

without the card your songs can take up space on the phone memory and slow your phone down.
Reply:This is really cheap micro sd card. $23 for 2GB. Even with shipping it is cheaper than anything else I have seen recently. Check it out.....

Where does the US Mint send all the half-dollar coins it makes every year?

The half-dollar is the second most consistently minted coin in US history. The US Mint continues to make Kennedy half-dollar coins to this day. But where are they? Where do they go? Banks don't stock them and we never see them in change. As far as I know, the only ways you can get them are by going to a casino or buying them (at considerably more than face value) from the mint. Is it now totally impossible to get a half-dollar for 50 cents in the United States?

Where does the US Mint send all the half-dollar coins it makes every year?
wow thats a good question. think i will check back here...thanks:)
Reply:Yep! To the casinos!!
Reply:That is question for the U.S. Treasury Department....I wouldn't know. I can't say the last time I got a half-dollar given to me...Why is that?
Reply:You answered your own question. They want you to buy them from the mint.
Reply:once my mom went shopping and gave her a half-dollar as change, so there might be some half-dollars in circulation. but there aren't that much, so they are rare to the consumer and shopper
Reply:I would argue with your consistently minted statement. I know the logic, but it is a little strained. The only reason that is true is two or three historical anomolies and the Civil War. In terms of numbers minted, it has never been nearly as large as many other denominations. It was a valuable portion of our coinage, but since silver was taken out of the coinage has disappeared. What happened was they left a little silver in half dollars in the 60's, so as silver rose those too left circulation and the American public just learned to live without them.

They are still available from banks in bags, and are probably the best kept secret for coin collectors to obtain great coins for their collection.

How do you keep bugs off of a chocolate mint plant?

We use the chocolate mint for mojitos and use the leaves in the drink. The plant is really healthy, but their are little gnats or something all over it. We don't really enjoy bugs in our drinks.

How do you keep bugs off of a chocolate mint plant?
I grow chocolate mint and spearmint. They've invasive, but they smell so good. Fortunately I haven't had any pests in mine.

The following article http://www.superbherbs.net/mint.htm lists some pests that may affect mint (spider mites, aphids, and flea beetles). Click on each pest name for more information.

Good luck!
Reply:Put up a sign. All bug please stay off the chocolate mint plant, the owner. That should do it.
Reply:Okay, first thing ya need to do, is find out what kinda bugs they are. Once known, then try and use a "non chemical" contol (cause most bug sprays have residual effect and you don't want a DDT Mojito). As a general spray in my garden, I use a mixture of crushed garlic (10-ish cloves), chilli powder (about a teaspoon), white oil (about 2 tablespoons) two drops of detergent and soak overnight in 500 millilitres of water. Strain it into one of those sprayer bottles and go play spray the bugs :). Make sure you wash the mint leaves before making your drink though :).

PS. Ya owe me a Mojito now :)
Reply:Hey! I have a chocolate mint plant and I didn't know what to do with it! I am so excited to make mojitos. Thanks for sharing.

Is there a difference between pepermint extract and mint extract?

Is there a difference between pepermint extract and mint extract?
I don't know where you live, but where I live I have never actually seen "mint" extract at the store. I've only seen peppermint. It comes in regular peppermint extract (which has some artificial flavoring in it) or pure peppermint extract. I get the pure, it costs about a dollar more but it's worth it. The brand I use is McCormick's and it's right next to the other McCormick's spices.
Reply:yes there is because usually Peppermint extract has some peppermint oil in it and mint could be a mixture of spearmint and other mints

if it's an american coin, on the front by the year it will have a "P" or "D" Minted (Philadelphia and Denver)
Reply:I can give you the mint marks for U.S. coins but is a world coin I need to know what country it is from. Older coins with out a mint mark, as well as cents were struck at the Philadelphia mint, modern coins have a P. D is for Denver and on gold coins from 1838-1861 the D stood for Dahlonega, Ga. S is for San Francisco. O is for New Orleans. CC for Carson City,Nevada. C is on gold coins from 1838-1861 and stood for the Charlotte N.C. mint. The newest mint mark is W for the West Point Mint. Where do I go to find the value of collector plates from Danbury Mint?

I have a complete set of Susie Morton's Champion Thoroughbreds from Danbury MInt. I would like to know the current value of the whole set.

Where do I go to find the value of collector plates from Danbury Mint?
+ here are a couple of ideas. Try seeing what kind of offer that Danbury will give you for reselling them (Hope they were all sold out) and then you have a price to start with. Check in the search engine on E-bay and see what they are asking and what they are getting there. I have seen collector plates at flee markets so you might try one to see if anyone is selling them. Also see if there are any publications that serious collectors and antique people would be reading that might give you a clue as to where else to look or maybe even the value. Danbury most likely advertises in the same publications so it might be worth a call and ask them what magazines and periodicals they put their adds in.

Good Luck

What would happen if the US Mint just made fewer pennies?

The US Mint makes hundreds of millions of pennies a year at a net loss for each one. The mint cannot decide to quit minting them, but can they make fewer of them? I would think that with fewer new ones, the banks would have to pay people more than a penny to encourage people to bring them in and the value of them would increase. Any thoughts?

What would happen if the US Mint just made fewer pennies?
things are far more complicated and trust me they are not always decided on the interest of the majority or the short term general wellfare

it is an icy worl baby... just keep by the right side of things

(keep off asking many whys and ifs: it won't help)
Reply:If the penny is a valid unit of payment, it must be produced to replace lost or worn out ones. You can not change the value of a penny. A penny equals 1/100th of a dollar period. You can't change that by decreasing the amount of them.
Reply:That thing happened in Brazil in the old inflation times. It was easy to find useless coins in the streets in those days. Each day the penny worth less and less and someday US will cease to produce it! It will have no consequences other than US spending less in such a nearly useless coin. Some other coins will be produced instead!
Reply:I think it would help cut cost of making the coin but the reason they make them is because people still use them. If business would round up to the nickel then their would be a less demand for it.

I think the best way is to make it out of a cheaper metal if the US still wants to use the penny.

What US mint did not mark its coins in the 19th and early 20th centuries?

In researching the value of some inherited coins, I find that many listed for sale on the internet have specific mints marked, like "D" for Denver, "P" for Philadelphia, or "O" for New Orleans. Many of my coins don't have a mint mark. I wonder if this also affects the coins values?

What US mint did not mark its coins in the 19th and early 20th centuries?
With a few exceptions, coins minted at the Philadelphia Mint, the nation's primary mint, did not bear a mintmark. (One notable exception: part-silver Jefferson nickels minted during World War II, which had a large "P" over the Monticello dome.)

Occasionally, however, in some listings of coins for sale, some Philadelphia Mint coins may nontheless be designated with "P" or "-P" following their dates, to fully identify these coins as originating at the Philadelphia Mint, and thus resolve any possible ambiguity.

Coins have value based on their value to collectors, and in some cases, on their metal content (e.g. for silver coins that might otherwise have little collectable value). Some Philadelphia mint coins are scarce and valuable, while others are common and have little value; it just depends on the denomination, series, and date of the coin, and its current value to collectors.

You can find many coin value guides on the Internet. Some of these include:

http://values.hobbizine.com/coin-index.h...

(Retail prices, but fairly realistic)

http://coins.about.com/od/coinvalues/Coi...

(Very realistic prices)

And for earlier coins:

http://www.pcgs.com/prices/

(Fairly high retail prices, but a good general guide nonetheless)

As for grading (condition), which is a major determinant of a coin's value, you might start here:

http://www.coin-gallery.com/cggradingart...

There are also grading books that you can buy, or find at a library or bookstore, that offer detailed photos or line drawings that you can use to more accurately assign grades to your coins.
Reply:Yeah, it's the Philadelphia mint. Pennies are still made without the P mintmark.

Do you wash spearmint before using it for Mojitos or Mint Juleps?

I am growing the spearmint in a planter for the use in Mojitos or Mint Juleps. I just need to know if I need to wash it before it is put in the drinks. Will it lose some of it's flavor if I wash it? Is there something specific I should wash it in?

Do you wash spearmint before using it for Mojitos or Mint Juleps?
Just rinse it under cool water briefly and set it out to dry off on paper towels. You won't lose any flavor, you're going to be muddling it with sugar and pulling all kinds of flavor out of it later.
Reply:just wash and dry with paper towel.a good tip is to slightly crush the mint you will get more flavour.
Reply:You are growing the wrong mint yes wash it %26amp; use it if y like mint flavor it wil be much stronger isay go for it.
Reply:There is a difference between "spearmint" and "mint". MINT is used in Mojitos.

You are growing the wrong spice. All though - it probably will work but will be much stronger.

Yes - you have to rinse it in cold water.
Reply:If it just rained you'd be OK but i'd wash it otherwise to get the bird droppings and other nasty stuff off. It wont lose its flavor. Spearmint is some good strong stuff. I've been growing it for years. You do have to watch where you put it cause it will try to take over the whole garden..:)
Reply:Yes, it's a dirty plant...with dirt. Washing vegetables and herbs and fruit does not affect teh flavor. Not washing it would probably make the drink taste bad. JUSt rinse it well under a steady stream of water, then lay flat to dry. Make sure it's dry before you use so no water gets in your drink. You could use a salad spinner if you have one.

What mint gum can hold it's flavor for the longest while chewing?
Mint Nicorette. The mint goes right away, but that gawdawful nicotine taste lasts and lasts ...
Reply:I think Orbit holds its flavor for a really long time. There's a new one called "Stride" which is supposed to be really long-lasting too. They are both sugarless, which is key--regular gum loses its flavor faster as the sugar dissolves.

Reply:Orbit has a good, long-lasting flavor. I've chewed it recently and it lasts longer than Trident or Extra. It's a bit pricey but I believe it is worth it. On the cheaper side, good old DoubleMint gum does the trick, but it DOES wear out quickly. It might be a case of "you get what you pay for." Happy chewing!

What kind of mint am I growing?

I am growing what smells like mint on my garden, but it is not the common mint. It has large (half dollar sized leaves that are fuzzy). Any ideas as to what kind of mint it is?

What kind of mint am I growing?
Leaves that big and fuzzy could be spearmint or apple mint, which is really fuzzy. Pennyroyal has small leaves and creeps low to the ground so I doubt it's that. It *could* be peppermint, but most varieties of that have smoother smaller leaves than spearmint. If you need to distinguish them, peppermint smells like candycanes. Spearmint smells like those green gummy candy leaves with the sugar on the outside.
Reply:There are probably 30 or more varieties of mint. It would be hard to say for sure which one you have.

I would say try tasting the leaf, but - it it is Pennyroyal you wouldn't want to do that, as it it toxic.

Do raccoons and squirrels and rabbits eat away cilantro/coriander, mint and fegugreek leaves?
They love all of those. We have a pet rabbit and grow cilantro for her. She gets a look of total contentment on her face as she eats each stem like a spaghetti noodle. Try growing these in containers or pots that are not low to the ground. That should discourage them.

Does anyone know anything about a New Hampshire state quarter with no mint stamped on it?
Sounds like the die may have had a bit of grease where the mint mark was. This is not uncommon, make sure there are no scratches where the mint mark was for it could have been removed by a skillful person. It has a small added value if a filled die error, that is grease or part of a rag. The mint mark is under "In God We Trust" on the George side (obverse). You can try a few local coin dealers for value. I have several state quarters missing different letters on one the we in God we trust is missing. It may be worth a couple of dollars. They are not rare.

Mint chocolate chip cheesecake out of a box?

I'm looking to make mint chocolate chip cheesecake, but not "homemade" I want to use the jello brand, but how much mint extract and chocolate chips should i use? I'm using mini chocolate chips.

Mint chocolate chip cheesecake out of a box?
I would think you can make mint choc chip by just adding both to the batter...I like it minty so I would add 2 tsp because if it is cooked it tends to loose some of the extract flavor. I haven't made the Jello Cheesecake...but I play around all the time with adding stuff to boxed mixes. I would add 1 cup to 1/3 cups choc chips....as well. If there is a powder, first mix the chips with that first to help to suspend the chips...so they don't fall to the bottom of the batter. Then add the mint extract.

Also, you can melt the chips separately per instructions on the choc chip package, add the mint extract to that and top the cheesecake with that....so you would have a Choc Mint topping.....that sounds good...to me...
Reply:Since there's already vanilla extract used in the cheesecake, it'll probably taste a little different if you add mint extract - it would be best if you made it yourself, from scratch (always is)......

But -

1 - 1 1/2 tsp. of mint extract and about 1 cup of mini chocolate chips should be all you need.

I started out with 3 rootlettes from my mommas garden 3 years ago and have a whole bed of it now, it spreads like crazy,I harvest it twice during the summer and have enough to last the rest of the year.

Reply:Just the mint you buy in the fresh herb section of the produce dept of a groceyr store, usually in little clear flat packs.
