We get our fresh mint for our mojitos in once a week and we are having trouble storing the mint leaves over the course of the week. When kept in the refrigerator it tends to make it worse anyone have any suggestions or easy methods for storing the mint leaves?
What is a good method to keep mint leaves fresh? I work in a bar and we are having problems keeping mint fresh
put them in a jar then put in sliced apple or potatoe this will keep mint fresh. change apple potatoe as needed
Reply:There is actually a product called "Minty Fresh" that mint leaves can be stored in in order to stay fresh. It's sold at a small local grocery store here, but I'm sure larger stores sell it as well.
Reply:You could pick a handful daily and keep in a glass of water like a bunch of flowers, doubles as decoration.
Reply:i think someone else mentioned this... if you buy the whole mint, stalks and leaves, cut the stems about 1/4 to 1/2 in off and place them in clean water, like you would flowers. you can keep them in the bottom portion of the fridge where it's not as cold. they'll keep for a couple of days longer and the leaves won't get bruised. i do this with many of my fresh herbs.
Reply:Just keep them in ice water,but do not pick them. Leave them on the stems! And you have to be gentle with them as they bruise easily and will look damaged. Hope this works for you. Also do not purchase alot, just what you need to get by.

Reply:See if you can get a plant for the bar so you can take fresh clippings off it as you need them.
Reply:Put the leaves, stems and all, into a vase of water and place the glass near a sunny window by day and then bar side at night. De-stem and use the leaves as required, the rest in the vase will give the bar a wonderful aroma!
Reply:If you can get the whole branch of mint you can put it in a vase of water and it will stay fresh - just be sure to change the water every day.
Reply:Don't store them. Buy less quantity more frequently.
Reply:You probably get them by pound or bunch and inside a plastic bag. That is the first enemy for fresh herbs, this if you don't go through them quick enough. So what we do at the restaurant I work,we get them out separate them into smaller bunches them wrapped them loosely on paper towels, and them in a Ziploc bag. This will keep them fresh for about 5/6 days, all because they are cool and dry.

Reply:try having them wrapped in wet paper towels. also you could easily grow them and keep that very fresh and wash. keep them in a cup out of the very cold like the frig. mint leaves don't like that.
