When you say "Mint" is that diffrent from Peppermint and Spearmint?

Well, when you say "Mint" does that mean the Mint is Peppermint or spearmint or that mint,spearmint.peppermint is a whole diffrent herbs?

Mint is botanically called Mentha it is the Lamiaceae family. There are many varieties of mint. The most common are


M. gentilis (Golden apple Mint)


M. piperita (Peppermint)


M. pulegium (Pennyroyal)


M. requienii (Corsician Mint, Jewel Mint of Corsica)


M. spicata (Spearmint)


M. suaveolens (Apple Mint)


also in the Lamiaceae family are the Nepetas such as


N. cataria (Catnip)


N. faassenii (Catmint)


N. sibirica (Blue Beauty)

Reply:Mint is just a general term for it.
Reply:well mint is the actual herb, but peppermint is the herb with some spice added and spearmint too. They're both from mint with added flavors, they are not a diffrent herb. hope i helped
