Why do you think mint is good for freshening breath?

At first I thought it was how it tasted... but if you think about it mint is just an acceptable taste, its not really a flavour you would pick as a favourite. The same really applies for its smell, its acceptable but again, not one you would really pick as a favourite.

Why do you think mint is good for freshening breath?
Probably because the smell derives from natural chemicals which line the inside of your mouth, that way it's there for longer so you have that certain smell for longer. And it has become an acceptable smell for breath now.

I'd rather chew on parsley, it just neutralises it so your breath smells of nothing.

Then again you can't carry round sprigs of parsley in your pocket
Reply:I think they should bring out banana flavour toothpastes or chocolate flavour. You can get kids toothpastes that are strawberry flavour so I think you should be able to get other flavours for adults too. I've have always wondered why toothpastes are always mint too. When I was younger I hated the taste of mint toothpastes. Took me some time to become accustomed to the taste.
Reply:i dunno but i like it!
Reply:Forget mint. It's just a cover smell. Try a sprig of parsley. It helps to neutralise bad breath.
Reply:But the smell is pleasant enough and strong enough to over-power breath smells.

Things like garlic are a very strong smell and need something equally as strong to over-power it. Freshly mown grass, for example, just ain't gonna do it.
