Water mint extract? Is it good for your hair?

I have some Suave shampoo that has water mint extract in it. It does my hair really good, but still I want to know what does WATER MINT extract do for your hair?

P.s. Please don't say Suave isn't good, because I've used salon products and everything else (seeing that my step dad grew up around Hair dressers and he is a barber so he tells me what not to put in my hair, and my sister's mom is a Hair dresser) and it doesn't work as good as Suave. But I just am concerned about the watermint. Sorry to ramble on but I hope you get my point.

Water mint extract? Is it good for your hair?
Mint is great for your scalp, it really doesn't do much for hair. Rosemary (if your hair is dark?) is great, a few drops of essential oil of Rosemary (don't get essential oils in your eyes or on furniture) added to rinse will brighten color, tighten cuticle (hair shaft surface) making your hair stronger and brighter.

You are right on about shampoos, most of them vary more in price than ingredients.
Reply:It feels great, and the aroma just soothes and relaxes. I love smelling the mint.
Reply:I doubt it does much but feel soothing to the scalp.
Reply:suave rocks...watermint is simply a nice rinse for the hair...suppose to be good for the scalp....invigorating...when i was growing up we grew mint in the garden and we would take it and put it in the fridge with water let it chill for a bit and use it as a rinse...it just feels so refreshing

Why does some fresh garlic (after mincing) turn green as it ages..and why would it have a hint of mint smell?

I work in a where we have pre-peeled garlic sent to us...and everything looks great when we mince it. But when the night is over or sometimes later that next day, it seems to have a green tint to it. and NO, it's not a cleaning issue. I've done it myself both at work and home, and I wonder if the exposure to air has an effect on the color of fresh garlic.

On a side note, I swear I can smell something that is close to mint. It it at all possible that garlic can take on a smell similar to mint?

Why does some fresh garlic (after mincing) turn green as it ages..and why would it have a hint of mint smell?
it has a genetic disorder that can cause astigmatism in adults becareful and throw those away

How much will EB Games pay for a mint DS lite and two games?

The DS Lite has only been used twice and i have warioware: master of disguise and gunpey Ds. Would it be worth selling it to EB Games or is it good to just keep it?

How much will EB Games pay for a mint DS lite and two games?
Not much. They are going to try to make profit out of you. So they will buy that for less and sell it for a lot. I'm guessing probably about $40-70 for your DS Light and for your two games i'm not too sure. It doesn't matter if you used it one time, two times, or 50 times, EB Games will buy for the same price and make profit out of you. So to me i would keep your DS for the future.
Reply:well first off it doesnt matter what kind of condition it is in you will get the same price. and second no body knows for sure because the prices change every day....you could go in today and trade your DS in and get 50$ and tommorow you would get more or less.....its like a stock market

Where can I find cute, wide womens shoes that don't cost a mint or look like they're meant for the elderly?

I've had terrible luck with shoes my whole life because my feet are both big and wide. Now the medication I'm on makes my feet swell so it's even worse. Any suggestions for places / websites that specialize in wides with styles that are actually cute instead of looking like they belong on an 80 year old woman?

Where can I find cute, wide womens shoes that don't cost a mint or look like they're meant for the elderly?
You may think I'm crazy, but I have found some really really cute shoes at Payless. I have a wide foot, and it's really the only place I found that carries wide width shoes. You might have to look hard, but they really do have some cute shoes!
Reply:Go to: Zappos.com

You can find good and affordable shoes at their stores. I don't know if your state has Nordstrom stores but you can check online at www.nordstrom.com.

I have a war time wheat penny that I believe to be a mint error?

I have what I believe to be a 1944 war time wheat penny, however, the "1" is clearly missing and it just has the date 944. What does anyone think?

I have a war time wheat penny that I believe to be a mint error?
It is not uncommon for a letter or number to be missing. Just due to the passage of time or someone defacing it could account for it. There are no mint errors listed for a digit left off of a 1944 cent. it is also possible the one was removed to be used on another coin such as using it to change a 1944-D cent in to a1914-D which is worth a few hundred dollars. If you think I am wrong you can try Ken Potter a specialist on error coins you need to send him a scan or photo or he will not answer your email. ken@koinpro.com also try with a photo or scan answerman2@aol.com he writes an answer column for Numismatic News the weekly coin paper.

How do you make the green spicy mint Indian chutney served at restaurants?
Podinay Ki Chutney

Mint Chutney

Ingredients

- 1 cup fresh coriander leaves

- 1/2 cup mint leaves

- 3-4 green chillies, chopped

- 1clove of garlic finely chopped

- 2 whole red chilies

- salt to taste

- 1\2 tsp. chilli powder

- 3-4 tbsp. tamarind juice or juice of one lemon

Wash the mint, coriander and green chilie under cold running tap water and roughly chop them. Place all the ingredients in a blender and grind to a fine paste.
Reply:I ama former chef from Canada and worked in Singapore, the recipes that are there are very good, I make mine like the one listed from "Desi Chef", but for a soothing bit to cool the spices, chilis and sourness is the addition of some dessicated coconut and either soaking it in hot water, or a bit of coconut milk.

The one thing is with fresh mint and cilantro it will not last to long, so make small batches, and with fresh chilis, use a combo of jalepenos, serrano or finger green chili's, if you like it really spicy use the seeds and all, if you want to tame it down or see what you like start with a few whole and some seeded.
Reply:1. 1 bunch (Equal quantities of) mint %26amp; cilantro

2. 2" piece of ginger

3. 3-4 cloves of garlic

4. 1 onion - medium size

5. 5-6 tablespoons of yogurt

6. green chillies and salt - as per taste

Wash the greens well. Throw everything in a mixie and ur chutney is ready ! Enjoy.

Or would it be advisable to take it into a jewellers for valuation, unless there are any coin collectors on Answers that could help.

I have a 1914 gold sovereign in mint condition, which site is best to find out its value?
I have been a customer of Coincraft for a number of years.

They pride themselves on their trustwortyness.

I see from their latest publication that these coins are between the £150 and £200 mark, depending on their condition and gold content.

Reply:Hello Mary,

I feel your best line of attack for an answer that is fair to everyone, is to nip into your local Library and check if they have a copy of the latest Coin Monthly Magazine, and look inside it to locate the closest Jeweller and Collectors in your area, and they might, if honest even quote their ' buy in' prices in the Magazine, if the Sovereign really is in 'mint condition' as you put it, you should get the top price for it..

You could even advertise the coin in the Coin Magazine, and see what comes out of your advert, as Sovereigns are very collectable and the nearer to 'mint condition they are, the more you can hope to get for it, anyway the very best of Luck with your task and I hope you make a pile of money from it, one more point, the Coin Magazine will also tell you How Many of these Coins were made in 1914, thus varifying the greater value of it, through its rarity.. Good Luck Mary......Tony M...

Why is it when I chew mint gum and drink ice water it really hurts?

When I say it really hurts, I mean it is really physically painful. Is there any scientific explanation for this?

Why is it when I chew mint gum and drink ice water it really hurts?
maybe its just you. to me it makes my mouth feel really cool(as in sort of cold).
Reply:probably fillings if you've had them. and if not, a cavity that's soo bad that all thats left is basically the outer rim of your tooth and the gum is exposed. i've had this problem...3 times... so i know lol.

get it pulled.. it WILL help.

Reply:You must have very sensitive teeth.

Try using toothpaste that helps sensitivity, or use sensodine.
Reply:the gum makes your teeth sensitive and the water is cold so your teeth don't like it
Reply:That probably means u have a cavaty. Many dentists use a cold air on couple of teeth and the one that hurts is the one that has a cavity, same thing with water or icecream. Hope you feel better!

How many different types of mint (the herb) are there?

Mint is botanically called Mentha it is the Lamiaceae family. There are many varieties of mint. The most common are

M. gentilis (Golden apple Mint)

M. piperita (Peppermint)

M. pulegium (Pennyroyal)

M. requienii (Corsician Mint, Jewel Mint of Corsica)

M. spicata (Spearmint)

M. suaveolens (Apple Mint)

also in the Lamiaceae family are the Nepetas such as

N. cataria (Catnip)

N. faassenii (Catmint)

N. sibirica (Blue Beauty)

Lamiaceae are all members of the mint family of herbaceous plants and shrubs. Many of this group are aromatic and the famliy contains most of the familiar kitchen herbs, such as basil, mint, oregano and sage.

I think there are too many to mention here but look up Lamiaceae, Mentha, and Nepeta plants and you will get an idea as to how many there are. I have listed for you the most common ones.

Also remember that all of these plants are invasive and should be kept contained unless you want an entire bed of mint. I have catnip, spearmint and peppermint growing in the edge of my yard where I can keep it mowed and pulled so that it does not invade my flower beds. It is wonderful to smell them as we sit near them and after a rain there are very pungent.

I hope this helps you.

Do Americans eat Mint Sauce with Roast Lamb or Lamb Chops?
Unlike the UK the virtues of Mint sauce are not as well known here. I am a former chef in Canada and as a matter of fact, I used to make it for one of the restaurants I worked in, the Mint Jelly the others have spoken of is a clearish green, sweet, almost spearmint flavoured jelly.

It is available in the section of the local grocerys stores were they sell the Jams and other preserves, it is a one dimensional food, not something you have with breakfast on your toast with your cuppa and plate of sausage and eggs, would be like drinking mouthwash in your Gin and Tonic.
Reply:yes, you can use it for both

I need a good thick "Chocolate Mint" Icing or whipping cream for a chocolate cake.?
The peppermint patties are great but also you can buy the chocolate icing and add a few drops of MINT extract or peppermint exstract. add a few drops mix taste and go from their. depending how strong you want the mint flavor to be.
Reply:Chocolate mint frosting

1 cup Sugar

¾ cup Evaporated milk (I use skim evaporated milk because that's what I have around the house.)

4 Squares bitter chocolate; broken up

½ teaspoon Mint or other extract

Into blender container place above ingredients. cover and blend on high 3 or 4 minutes, or until thick. Enough for 8 or 9 inch layer cake. Just pour it over the layer and spread with a spatula.

CHOCOLATE MINT FROSTING

5 Tbl. light cream 3 Cups Confectioners Sugar

1/4 Cup chopped, fresh Chocolate Mint Leaves 1 Tea. Vanilla

1/2 Cup Butter, softened 1/2 Cup Cocoa

In a small saucepan, combine cream and mint. Heat to almost boiling. Remove from heat and let steep until cool. Strain, pressing all the cream out of the mint leaves. Discard leaves.

In a small mixer bowl add butter, sugar, vanilla, cocoa and cooled cream. Beat until frosting is creamy and of spreading consistency. Spread frosting between the layers, on top and around the edge of cake. Garnish, as desired, with chocolate leaves and edible flowers.

White chocolate mint icing

Frosting

1/2 cup whipping cream

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

8 ounces high-quality white chocolate, chopped

1 tablespoon green crème de menthe

For frosting:

Bring cream and butter to simmer in heavy small saucepan over medium heat, stirring until butter melts. Remove from heat. Add white chocolate; stir until melted. Mix in crème de menthe. Transfer frosting to bowl; let frosting cool at room temperature until firm enough to pipe, stirring occasionally, about 2 hours.

I hope that is was useful...Good Luck!!! :)
Reply:the easy lazy method would be to nuke some peppermint patties and then ice the cake with the melted candy bars. My kids liked the result, it was a bit much for me.
Reply:If you do not want something too sweet, don't go with storebought. That stuff is sickeningly sweet! Make it yourself. A buttercream frosting isn't hard to make at all. No cooking for this recipe. Add mint and you can make it just like you want. Basic recipe as follows - but adjust to your own taste and texture.

1 cup softened room temperature butter (not melted)

1 1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2/3 cup milk

1 tsp vanilla extract

Beat the butter with an electric mixer until it is fluffy, add the sugar and cocoa and continue to beat on high. Then add the milk and vanilla, continuing to mix with the electric mixer.

Add the mint extract with the vanilla and milk.

Mint Sauce

Instructions:

Rinse young, healthy mint leaves, strip from the stems, and chop into fine pieces. I usually process most of the leaves in the blender, with a little of the vinegar, leaving some aside to chop by hand. The leaves chopped in the blender will be very fine, and infuse a fine flavor, while those done by hand are a little coarser and will be more visible in the decorative vinegar jar.

Bring vinegar to a simmer in a small saucepan, add sugar and chopped leaves. Simmer for about 20 minutes to infuse. Add more sugar or add a little water to taste, depending on how strong or how sweet you want the sauce. (I add no extra water or sugar to this recipe, but you may prefer a less strong infusion.)

You can re-use lots of different bottles for mint sauce...I've used bottles and jars that once contained steak sauce, olive oil, baby food and salad dressings. Tall narrow jars look elegant, but short, squat jars allow you to use a spoon to serve the mint sauce. Make sure the bottles are free of nicks or cracks and sealable with either a screw top or cork. Wash containers thoroughly, then sterilize by immersing the jars in a pan of hot water and simmering for 10 minutes. Once jars are sterilized, remove from the simmering water and invert on paper towel to dry. Fill while the jars are still warm and seal tightly. If using corks and you intend to store the vinegar for an extended time, seal the corks by dipping in paraffin; if using a screw top, place a small square of waxed paper on top of the jar before screwing the lid on tight.

You can add a small fresh sprig of mint to your jars, if you wish, for visual appeal - just insert into the jar before adding the mint sauce. Use a funnel to add the sauce, stirring as you pour it into the funnel to make sure you get lots of mint leaves mixed with the vinegar. You'll find that the mint settles to the bottom of the jar, so the mint sauce should be gently shaken or stirred before serving.

Vinegar has natural preservative qualities, and mint sauce should keep for 2 to 3 months in cold storage or for 6 to 8 months in the refrigerator.

How do I make mint sauce from scratch?
FRESH MINT SAUCE

1 lg. bunch fresh mint leaves (about 1/2 cup minced leaves)

1 c. dark brown sugar

1 c. tarragon wine vinegar

Wash the mint and pull of the leaves. Combine leaves, stems, sugar and vinegar in a heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes or until sauce is slightly thickened. Lift the leaves and stems from sauce. Discard stems. Chop the leaves very fine and return to sauce. Serve warm over roast lamb.

Well it looks ok.

I would definitely not buy medallions or similar from here ior anywhere. You will probably be paying a premium for the design which will not be reflected in your selling (or investment) price.

Check the price of gold coins with the cost of the metal (allowing for alloy percentage). Of course you will be paying a premium but it should not be much. Do they buy coins back? If so how wide is their spread? Is it just mail order? How much is the delivery or insurance? Maybe my article on buying gold will interest you on http://www.shareworld.co.uk/articles/gol...

How much mint extract is equal to a sprig of mint?

How much mint extract is equal to a sprig of mint?
Only a teensy bit. Extract really does taste very different to the fresh stuff so try to shop around for it. It might taste a bit funky with extract- and not in the good way.
Reply:It'd differ from sprig to sprig, but it's a very small amount. I'd only use one to three drops, depending on your preference for mint.

I have a mint plant I want to bring in the house?

I want to make sure there are no bugs living in the soil and I don't want to use anything toxic. I have it in a very nice clay pot and would like to keep it in there.

I have a mint plant I want to bring in the house?
try spraying with a solution made from a couple drops of regular dish soap per quart of water. spray everyday for ten days after moving inside. the insecticidal soap spray will kill live bugs but not the eggs so this is why the 10 days is required. the dish soap will not hurt the plant or you.
Reply:The best thing would be to re-pot it using a good brand of potting soil i.e. Miracle Grow. This will ensure there are no bugs etc. that you will bring into the house. It will also supply your plant with some fresh nutrients!!!!!
Reply:you can bring it in the house, although it wont hurt to leave it outside, it will spread like crazy. you will find after it has spread that you will need to thin it out by pulling up some of the plants and planting somewhere else.

I always use it in new potatoes, wash first and use in any cooking you want flavored by mint. good luck!
Reply:Buy the hottest peppers you can find and place them in a blender with a little water. Strain and place in a spray bottle. Spray your plants.
Reply:As for the bug issue ... put the plant on a bag for a few days to see if anything falls from the plant. Anything living on the plant is not going to hurt you. I grow wheat grass outside and bring it in when the grass gets pretty and long. i have never had any problems with bugs. The beauty of having a mint plant inside far exceeds the few bugs that you may find.

Another option is to replant it.

Put the plant next to a window and make sure the soil is always humid. A dead mint plant probably hasn't received enough water or sunlight.

How does mint raise the temperature of your mouth?

i already know that it does but whats in it that makes your temperature raise i need answeres soon so please help

i cant find any thing on the web

How does mint raise the temperature of your mouth?
Sorry, but that's nonsense. The temperature of your mouth is basically the temperature of your body. (It's a little lower than the rest of your body, because you are breathing in air. That's why when you take your temperature, the thermometer goes under your tongue--away from the air--to get the exact body temperature.) Mint doesn't raise or lower your body temperature, so it doesn't change your mouth temperature either, at least in any meaningful way. Good luck!!
Reply:It brings blood flow to your mouth (tongue). Yummy mints!
Reply:It has nothing to about raising the temperature but it does bring a good taste.

A U.S. quarter specifically.

Coins: How can you tell the difference between damage received pre-release at the mint, and something that...?
It depends on the type of damage and the type of coin. I can't tell you without pictures.

Take the coin to a coin dealer in your area. They will be able to tell you for sure and if it is in fact a mint error, they will be able to tell you how much it is worth.

Question about mint plants?

Well I actually have 2 questions. First of all, I read you need to "pinch" the plant to make it grow bushier. What exactly do they mean by pinch? and do I pinch the leaf tips or the top of the stem or what?

Also when you put a mint leaf in a drink do you crush it first or do you just drop it in and the flavor comes out on its own?

Question about mint plants?
"pinch" means "cut". Take a knife or scissors and cut the mint directly above a set of leaves. Dont leave a stub more than an eighth of an inch long. Mint is pretty tough, so you can cut it any length, although the traditional is about three inches or so. One thing of note: the strongest flavor you can get is when the plant is in full bloom. Once the flowers die off, the flavor drops off too. It doesn't go away, mint is too strong to completely disappear. I know right where mine is when I rake in the early spring: the mint isn't up yet, but the odor is there! For the second question: you should squish the bottom of the cut stem. Leave the top unsquished for appearances sake. Just mash it a little bit, you don't have to completely crush it. If you like iced tea: boil some mint cuttings with the tea, refrigerate until cold. I use two or three sprigs of mint per half gallon container. Refreshing!
Reply:crushing the leaves releases the flavor.

you've got me thinking about a Mojito now (rum, lime and mint... VERY refreshing).. but it's only 10:15AM where I am.. is that a symptom of a problem??

Brady's right about pinching.
Reply:Be careful with mint. It is very invasive and will take over everything.

Yes leaves must be crushed to release flavor
Reply:You pinch the top of the stem, not the leaf tips. Pinch means to remove. You can use either your fingers/fingernail or scissors. The leaf should be crushed to release its oils. An uncrushed mint leaf is more for decoration than taste.

I have several old books in mint condition and would like to sale them is there any place that would buy them?

The books that I have are mostly 1950's editions of Random House. Educational and Factual with some historical. All are hardback covered, no riped pages and are in excellent condition. I also have a complete set of Colliers Encyclopedias. With bonus books from the late 50's to early 60's these too are in excellent condition. I hope someone out there has the answer for me I would like to see them go to someone that appreciates fine old books.

E-bay is the best place to start. Do research on the internet, go to your local library. That should get you started
Reply:I suggest that you look on ebay and compare prices with similar books. You can get them appraised, but I'm not sure where you can do that. also, look on book sites like amazon.com(in the books section) and look for a similar book.

What colors are supposed to be 'happy' colors? I am wanting to paint a room and am considering a mint green.

Green is generally reckoned to be soothing - green rooms in theatres ar to calme the artistes down before going on stage. Happy colours are pink, red, orange and yellow - reminiscent of sunshine and flowers and Tequila Sunrises - guaranteed to get anyone happy.

That said the effect is more to do with the depth and chroma of the colur you are using and what you put with it. A very fresh aqua/mint may be fairly happy - usually to make them subtle light green tones tend to be a bit grey which can be slightly depressing.

What colors are supposed to be 'happy' colors? I am wanting to paint a room and am considering a mint green.
I think a mint green room is an optimistic color. Don't choose a bright mint green, or that will just be nasty. I would recommend a color called " white mint" from Sherwin William's. It is light enough in color that it will coordinate with other colors in your room. Another "happy" color is yellow. Once again, don't choose a bright yellow. A soft yellow, is welcoming and pleasant to the eye. "Chamomile" is a good choice, also from Sherwin William's. Your decor also has an impact on how you feel in a room. So choose a comforter that you really like and pictures for your walls that you really are fond of. Good luck, and I hope you like your room when you have finished!
Reply:, I don't know about happy colors. But colors are either warm or cool colors. Reds, yellows, oranges, pinks are warm colors. Blues, greens , are cool colors.

How to cook "lamb with mint sauce"?

I am interested especially in the sauce. If someone has another ideea of sauce please feel free..Thank you a lot!

How to cook "lamb with mint sauce"?
You have some lovely lamb recipes there, by the sound of it!

Traditionally, in the UK, mint sauce is served in a bowl on the side so that everyone who wants some can spoon it either over their lamb, or on the side of their plate.

Recipes vary from family to family, and from chef to chef, but I find the best way is to make it from "taste" and to keep it as simple as possible.

So: take a handful of fresh mint and chop it as finely as possible. Put it into a bowl and add about 1-2 teaspoons of either malt or white wine vinegar. Add a little sugar, stir and taste. Then add a little water - it should not be too vinegary, but nicely tart; not sweet, but the sugar should just cut through the acidity. The sauce should not be too runny, nor too thick.

Onion sauce is traditional with lamb, too. It's easy to make: chop a medium to large onion and gently saute in butter until soft and translucent. To that mixture, add flour then milk to make a white sauce in the usual way. Season and serve.

(A nice way to roast a leg of lamb is to make slits in it, all over; crush coriander seeds, chop some garlic, mix together. Stuff into the slits and roast as usual.)

Reply:Roast leg of spring lamb with garlic and rosemary

Early spring lamb has a delicate, pale and tender meat with a fine grain and white crumbly fat to keep it succulent. Allow the joint to rest for at least 10 minutes before carving to allow the meat to relax and the juices to disperse.

Ingredients

lamb trimmings and chopped bones from butcher

1 head of garlic, halved horizontally

1 leg of lamb bone in, approx 2kg/4½lb

6 garlic cloves, halved

1 bunch fresh rosemary

15g/½oz softened butter

salt and freshly ground black pepper

seasoned vegetables, to serve

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 220C/425F/Gas 7.

2. In the bottom of a roasting tin scatter the chopped bones, trimmings and garlic head.

3. Make 2.5cm/1in deep incisions in the lamb, into each incision insert the garlic cloves and rosemary sprigs.

4. Rub the butter over the lamb and place the leg on top of the bones, season and place in the oven for 1-1½ hours (15 minutes per 450g/1lb for rare and 20 minutes for medium) turning over half way through.

5. Remove the lamb from the oven, season again and transfer to a tray to rest.

6. To make the gravy:place the roasting pan over a moderate heat to caramelise the lamb juices, this will take 2-3 minutes. Strain of any excess fat. Pour in 350ml/12fl oz cold water, reduce heat and simmer gently for 5 minutes. Strain through a sieve. Serve the lamb with the gravy and seasonal vegetables.

MINT SAUCE

Ingredients

2 large handfuls fresh mint leaves, finely chopped.

2 tbsp cider vinegar

2 tbsp apple juice

1 tbsp caster sugar

Method

Mix together all the ingredients and leave to infuse for about an hour before serving.

Tip:

If you're having this mint sauce in the spring or summer months, add 2 tbsp finely chopped spring onions for a change.
Reply:well in a blender you can do up some mint and coriander leaves - add some yogurt and maybe a dash of cumin - it tastes divine -
Reply:Mix mint with virgin oil and spread it on the lamb.Place the lamb on a few onions and cook in a slow cooker for approx.6 hours. The meat will melt in your mouth.A little wine as a liquid on the bottom of the slow cooker wouldn't hurt either.
Reply:Servings: 6-8

Level of difficulty: Easy

Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Cooking Time: 2 hours

Ingredients

1 x 2kg leg of lamb

2 garlic cloves, shredded

2 tbsp dripping

For the mint sauce

1 small handful mint leaves

1-2 tbsp Sugar

50ml boiling water

4-5 tbsp white wine vinegar

For the gravy

1 small onion, finely sliced

100ml Red wine

1 tsp redcurrant jelly

375ml brown stock

1 tsp cornflour

freshly ground salt and pepper

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 220C/gas 8

2. Place the lamb on a chopping board and make incisions over the joint with a sharp knife. Insert slivers of garlic into the cuts.

3. Heat the dripping in a roasting tin in the oven until smoking hot. Place the lamb in the tin and roast for 30 minutes.

4. Turn the heat down to 170C/gas 3 and continue roasting for about 1 hour 20 minutes. Pierce the meat with a skewer to test if it’s done. If the juices run a pale pink, it’s ready. While the lamb is roasting, make the mint sauce.

5. For the mint sauce, finely chop the mint leaves along with a teaspoon of the measured sugar – this helps fix the colour. Place the chopped mint in a heatproof jug and pour over the boiling water. Stir in the remaining sugar, and sharpen with enough vinegar to give a pleasant tang,

6. Take the lamb out of the oven and remove from the roasting tin. Leave to stand for about 15 minutes on a chopping board while you make the gravy. This standing time gives the meat time to relax and develop its flavour.

7. For the gravy, pour off any extra oil from the roasting tin, leaving back a tablespoon or so in the tin. Place the roasting tin over a low heat, add the onions, and cook until softened. If it looks like catching on the bottom of the tin, add a dash of red wine and scrape well with a metal spoon to lift up any meaty sediment – this has the most flavour and adds a rich flavour to the finished gravy.

8. Once the onions are soft, pour in the remainder of the wine and add the stock and redcurrant jelly. Bring to a boil over a medium heat and cook down until reduced by one third.

9. Mix the cornflour with 1 tablespoon of water until it resembles a smooth paste. Add a ladleful of the hot gravy into the cornflour mixture and stir to mix before returning to the pan. Stir, over a moderate heat, until the gravy has thickened. Taste for seasoning and keep warm until ready to serve.

10. Carve the lamb into medium-thick slices using a sharp knife, and serve with the gravy and mint sauce. Accompany with roast potatoes and a green vegetable such as fresh peas.

How do i grow onto mint flavored gum?

I want to start chewing mintier gum because im self conscious about my breath at times, but sometimes i cant handle its flavor! how do i grow onto it enough to make it normal for me to chew minty gum like anyone else?

How do i grow onto mint flavored gum?
I agree with you, the mint flavor kind of hurts. Hah, but i agree with the first answer. Try spearmint. It tastes good, makes your breath smell nice, and isn't as minty as peppermint gum.
Reply:Try other flavors of gum. If it's just bad breath that you're worried about then any other flavor like the classic flavor could work for you. Your breath won't be minty but it won't smell bad either and you won't have to stand chewing a flavor you dislike :)

Now that Snapple discontinued Mint Iced Tea, Who makes it?

The purchase by Cadburry/Schwepp's of Snapple has led to the cancellation of Mint Iced Tea. All major brands sell Raspberry, Lemon, etc. however Snapple was the only one I am aware of with mint. Any ideas?

Now that Snapple discontinued Mint Iced Tea, Who makes it?
Make your own. It's cheaper and you control the quality, price and taste. It doesn't take very long.

Get a good quality leaf tea (tea bags if you have no other choice!), brew it fairly strong, allow to cool (you can pour it over ice cubes!), then pour over ice cubes in the chilled glass, add as desired, favourite sweeteners, water, and other flavourings to taste.

Another option, make your own, Bigelow and Celestial Seasonings both make Mint tea bags. You could make sun tea or brew it with hot water and refrigerate it. The big plus, you can control the amount of sugar yourself this way.

How many grams in each coin of Life of Jesus Danbury Mint set?
They are not coins but medals and you will need to weigh them or find the papers that came with them. Stirling silver is .925 and I doubt the thin gold coating is worth much. Most medals and the like from the Danbury mint as well as the Franklin mint have no seconday market. Coin collectors are not interested and it is hard to find a buyer who wants them. If they are about silver dollar size ( the old ones) around 38mm in diameter they shoud weigh about a troy ounce each. This is the best I can do.

What are some good uses for both fresh lavendar and fresh mint?

If added to a bath, do you just throw in a few sprigs, or do you cut the leaves to release the scent? Any other ways to get the scents into my home?

What are some good uses for both fresh lavendar and fresh mint?
believe it or not, lavender %26amp; fresh mint together make excellent tea as well as a fabulous vinegarette for a spring salad with citrus finishes.

if you add it to a bath, you can rub the two together under water between your hands to release the essential oils, or put it in a small muslin cloth bag %26amp; allow it to infuse under water.

the combination also makes a great essential oil on its own when mixed with a base of grapeseed, almond or even extra-virgin olive oil if placed in a dark bottle %26amp; allowed to slowly infuse into the oil over a span of two weeks to a month. (the longer - the more potent.)
Reply:To use in the bath, put the lavendar flowers / mint leaves in a loosely woven cotton bag or inside a nylon stocking so it becomes like a tea bag and doesn't make a mess. You can mix the two and even add a very little oatmeal because it makes your skin extra soft.

You can also set the lavendar and/or mint in bowls like potpourri.

Lavendar flowers are good sprinkled on cookies, in breads, stews and gravies.

Mint is good in hot and cold drinks.
Reply:my sister makes a wonderful lavender cookie. its like a sugar cookie with lavender in it. it is tasty %26amp; healthy. She said the cookies relax you %26amp; help you sleep.
Reply:You can bruise both fresh lavendar and mint and add them to hot baths.

You can pick bunches of lavendar and mint and put them in vases like flowers, or along with flowers.

You can grow them indoors in pots.

You can also use them in cooking. An easy mint sauce is to chop up several cups of fresh mint leaves and store them in a jar filled with honey. When ready to use, take a large spoonful of mint-honey mixture and mix it with vinegar until you get a flavour and consistency that you like. This will keep virtually forever in the pantry.

You can also make a lavender honey by infusing honey with lavender, then straining out the lavendar before sealing the jar.
Reply:you can boil the lavendar in a pot and it will infuse the scent throughout the house.

How much is a new $50 gold coin worth in mint condition?

My father just bought one for my newborn daughter. He seems to think it will pay for her first year of college in 18 years.

How much is a new $50 gold coin worth in mint condition?
The coin is worth, and probably will always be worth, about $50 more than the spot price of gold. Gold is a store of value, in that it usually keeps up with inflation, much like a bond. I know lots of "goldbugs" think "this time is different", but I believe it will continue to be just a store of value. Saying that, I doubt that it will pay for her first year of college since tuition is going up more than inflation. If I were to want to invest $700 now to pay for tuition in 18 years, I would invest in a low cost mutual fund instead. That has a statistically much better chance of covering her tuition bill.

This is your dad, though, so I would keep the coin safe for your daughter and thank him for the gift.

How much is a 1935 $1 Silver Certificate worth in mint condition?
Go to any coin dealer and look it up in the latest BLUE BOOK

Don't rely on what the dealer himself tells you, they only buy when they can steal something..they thrive on buying estates where the heirs have no idea what things are worth and don't want to put any time or effort into finding out or disposing of currency, coins or stamps * ...or old stock certificates or bonds.

SOMETHING IS WORTH EXACTLY WHAT YOU CAN GET SOMEONE TO PAY YOU FOR IT.

I recently bought some similar to what you found, as Christmas presents last year, and paid anywhere from $5 to about $20.

The one you have MAY be worth a goldmine if it has special features or has only a very limited number in circulation. The fewer things there are of ANYthing, the more valuable they become for just that reason.

I would frame it beautifully and put in on a wall, and sell it that way..you might get several hundred dollars for it..everything is in the marketing and presentation !!!!

You already have something very valuable becuase it's in such great condition...why sell it, it is going to keep going up in value !!!

Can I add mint schnapps to an Oreo No Bake Dessert without altering the texture too much?

For St. Patricks Day I'm making an Oreo No Bake Dessert straight from the box mix sold in stores. My bright idea was to dye it green with food coloring and then add peppermint schnapps. I was wondering if anyone else has made a similar dessert with alcohol. I'm afraid that the schnapps will interfere with the desserts ability to properly "set up". Any advice?

Can I add mint schnapps to an Oreo No Bake Dessert without altering the texture too much?
i think it would interfere. most recipes calling for alcohol to use as flavor involve actually cooking the liquid out. i think those desserts are pretty cheap just try it beforehand
Reply:First take a shot then eat the cake.
Reply:Try replacing some of the other liquid it calls for with the schnapps, so there's the same amount of liquid overall.
Reply:don't add too much or it won't set .... Try green Creme de Menthe instead too. You'll have the flavor AND the color! ... and then you can make frozen grasshopper pies with it later .... OR serve grasshoppers with the pie! (1/2 shot green creme de menthe; 1/2 shot white creme de cacao; 2 shots cream; ice cubes on the blender)

I would like to dig up my basil and mint?

It is kind of rainy so the ground will be soft. Do I need to know anything before I go and try to transplant these herbs into inside pots? Is it even possible?

I would like to dig up my basil and mint?
It's very possible. Just try to disturb the roots as little as possible. Get a nice size rootball, and it's good to have the soil damp when you do it. Use a container bigger than the rootball so the roots have some room to expand into new soil. Be sure you plant them at the same level they were growing at. After potting, some fish and kelp emulsion will keep them well fed and assist their recovery from transplanting. Mint is VERY hardy, as you have probably seen in your garden. Basil is more of an annual, it is easy to grow indoors from seed anytime. You'll need fluorescent light tubes of at least 40 watts to keep the plants growing inside. The tubes should be very close over the plants, even touching is ok, they don't get very warm. Cool light tubes are fine, since you want leaves and not flowers. Good luck!
Reply:You can try, but woody growth on each of these plants prevent them from being transplanted and becoming the lovely plant you see outside. It never hurts to try, however. I have mint planted around the trunk of my dwarf lemon tree ( It is very invasive, so I always plant mint in a pot). When I bring it in for the winter, it does moderately well in bright morning sun with ample water. Even with the shade of the lemon tree, I still have enough to use in cooking.
Reply:It is possible, but whether they will survive inside is another question. Make sure you use a good potting soil in a container with good drainage. I have found that transplanting them and then trying to grow them inside isn't always successful. They really need a very sunny window to thrive and we just sometimes have too many cloudy days in a row where they don't get enough sun (tinted windows don't help either). The only thing you can do is try it or harvest and dry what you have on the plant.
Reply:One problem with transplanting from outdoor gardens to a pot is that the root structure on outdoor plants is relatively large, since there's no pot wall to obstruct their growth. So, you will damage the roots when you dig them up and that will shock the plant, possibly killing it.

Basil and mint plants are very common and inexpensive. Why don't you just go get new plants for indoors and harvest what you have outside?

Does anyone know of where I can find mint green tsavorites?

I fell in love with this gem stone, its so pretty and I heard that its very rare, does anyone know of a place that sells these?

Does anyone know of where I can find mint green tsavorites?
You might try some of the larger online gemstone companies like multicolour.com. They often have a good selection of tsavorite. You can also try eBay, but you have to make sure you are dealing with a reputable seller. Never buy from a merchant on eBay unless you have used toolhaus.org to check out his username and feedback history.

Best of luck!

Is it really true that a cola when mixed with mint can kill a person?

what i mean is that when a child is eating mint gums and then he drink cola...is it true that it will kill him?

Is it really true that a cola when mixed with mint can kill a person?
Not true. It will make for one heck of a belch, but it is not lethal.

And it is not mint gum, but rather mentos...the mentos and cola mix and reacts.
Reply:I believe you are talking about the diet soda and mint mentos reaction. While as mentioned above it will cause a serious burp it will not kill you. It is not recommended trying this though.
Reply:If you put Mentos into a bottle or Coke, then put the cap back on, it will pop off in like, a minute.
Reply:depends because when mentos come in contact with cola, a very large amount of gas will produce.you can try if by putting in a tube of mentosinto a bottle of cola.
Reply:mint gums have only the flawer of mint, a little amount of mint. so they have not so dangerous impact due to cola on a person but if you have eaten a mint powder or candy then it will be dangerous becasue cola is acidic in nature having ph 2.25. it will evolve hydrogen gass as well as CO2 pressurized in the cola on cotact with mint vigorusly. it can creat a pressure in your stomach which can leads to vomiting as well as stoamch burst in sever case. you can try it with a plastic bottle of cola. poure a little amount of mint powder in it and see what hapens. the cola will come out like the water of a powerfull fountain depicting the pressure inside. the hapens inside the stomach.
Reply:Well, I think you got that wrong. When I child eats 15 gms of chocolate, drinks a coke and then goes out to have a McDonald Happy Meal, he kicks the bucket for sure.

Otherwise, the child could ingest some liquid bleach instead of cola.

Highly NOT recommended.
Reply:hahah... the cola and mentos combo! Well, it has yet to kill a person (probably an urban legend), but it will produce lots of gas, resulting in more bleaching or farting...

BUT rest assured, the effects also depends on the type of colas, normal cola don't produce as much effects as diet cola. It is true that cola can react with mentos and it is the combination of different cola and mentos that matter.

The artificial sugar, aspartame, exagerate and expedite the evolution of gas. In normal cola, the sugar is absent and a mere mento would just cause a small fizzle due to caffeine and their preservative, sodium benzoate (most often used). In addition, the different type of mentos react differently, majority of the mentos do not result in any rapid evolution of gas as their surface is smooth. Some mentos, like the mint ones, are not made the same way as their coating is nucleated (have very small holes). We know mentos coating has some form of carbonate that can react with acid to evolve gas but that produce little or no CO2 when compared to the amount of CO2 pressurised in them. When the coating is nucleated, it sped up the evolution of the pressurised gas (pressurised gas always looking for an outlet, aided by the chemicals in cola) and hence it can make a good rocket. It is the combination of these two that can make a spectacular display and what people may fear if they put the two of them in the tummy.

Anyway, mentos are usually chewed before swallowing, hence breaking down the coating that cause the rapid evolution of gas. Thus, it won't be of any harm to drink cola after that. Besides, the stomach acid will be doing the job first. Whatever the reaction between the two, it is probably applicable to only outside the body. Our mouth can only take a mouthful of diet cola at time, and according to chemistry 101, amount and concentration matters... thus it's unlikely to be of any harm.

Reply:I wouldn't pay a dime to pick it up across the street.
Reply:To be honest, never heard of it.

But someone will, so a little research and then sell if I were you.
Reply:Hardback or paperback? You might get 4 or 5 quid for a hardback, if you're lucky, but it looks as if you need to start at a lower price to attract attention.

Someone got £10.50 for one that wasn't even signed! I suspect that was a fluke.

Therabreath toothpaste by Dr Katz is available in Walmart and it really helps with breath and has a mild mint flavor. I used to use Soft mint too but Therabreath works great so I don't miss the soft mint any more.

I have tiny caterpillars eating my Tomatoes, Mint and Basil. What can I do?

I need some kind of organic spray that will kill the caterpillar's, but also leave the produce in good conditions for humans to eat.

Any suggestions?

I have tiny caterpillars eating my Tomatoes, Mint and Basil. What can I do?
The safest way to keep your garden organic is to kill the little critters by hand. (unfortunately ICKY). Another option is to cover the plants with a netting so that the moths can't get there to lay their eggs.
Reply:go to the shop and ask the shop assistant
Reply:Put some meat out, and table cloths, and make it a caterpillar's convention.....?
Reply:Syd is correct. Squish them with your fingers, they wash off.

Look for the egg mass. It resembles an oval of mold the size of the end of your thumb. Squash it, no caterpillars.
Reply:Put a few drops of dish washing liquid in a spray bottle with water. Then spray the entire plant. The pest's should go away.

What is the worth of a 1963 MINT Planet of the Apes Hardcover?

I found a 1963 hardcover 'bookclub' edition of Planet of the apes in my fathers attic. It is in beautiful condition and is Hardback. i was thinking about putting it on E-bay... But I don't know the worth of it, Any suggestions?

What is the worth of a 1963 MINT Planet of the Apes Hardcover?
Get it appraised by an antique place.
Reply:Book Club editions are rarely worth anything at all, for some reason: probably because they increase the print runs so much, which makes the book less rare.

Here are links to a couple of specialist sf dealers. I doubt either of them would give you more than 50p for it. I shall hope I'm wrong!
Reply:Book Club edition is $2.25 to $7.49 on ABEbooks.com. Even a very good edition is only $5. But it is still a cool book.
Reply:Prolly like 100 billion dollars...... or like at 500-1000. Maybe more

How do you get rid of mint once it has started sending out spreaders?

You just have to dig it up and get all the roots out. When you see it grow again, keep doing it and eventually it will be gone. If you want chemicals, go to the nearest garden center, and they should have something for you.

How do you get rid of mint once it has started sending out spreaders?
You can contain the plant and spray the runners with roundup.
Reply:i could never figure that out.. so now when i mow,, it smells wonderful.,.. from afar,, my lawn is nice and green... up close - now thats another story... i will keep checking this one to see if you get some answers
Reply:Pull up the runners and make sure you get all the roots. I cut all my mint back, dried it, and sold the dried herbal mint at my yard sale. I got rid of a troublesome plant and made money at the same time. I still have mint but I grow it in a container because of its sprawling and spreading behavior. If you dig up the "mother" plant, you will have a good chance of the offshoots dying as well. But I still suggest radical pruning, drying and selling as a good course of action. If you dont want to dig it out, you can post a notice at the grocery bulletin board with a "free for the digging." I got rid of lots of plants from my yard that needed to be divided and I didnt have time. People came by the droves for free transplants.
Reply:You can dig them all out or stop watering from within 5 feet of the plant. Leave completely dry. That's how I got rid of mine since it is too laborious to dig, neglect is a much better approach. But if it always rains... then you'l have to dig. Another way is to smother with cardboard. Leave it covered with cardboard for month, replacing each time the cardboard starts to decay. Not even bermuda grass can survive the cardboard technique.
Reply:Just use boiling water.

How does the government know how much money to print at the mint?

Article I of the US Constitution gives Congress the power "To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures."

They oversee the treasury and decide how much money to print with the assistance of the US Treasury Department. This is done based upon economic forecasts, the value of the dollar verses other currencies and the need for the money. They may want to print more money to create inflation (which lowers unemployment) or limit the money to create savings.

They also print money to compensate for the money that is being constantly taken out of circulation (you trade in a ripped dollar at a bank and they destroy it and print a new one to replace it).

The Federal Bank handle fiscal policy (such as interest rates and borrowing guidelines), not monetary policy (how much to actually spend).

Reply:"Peppermint trees" (Agonis flexuosa)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peppermint_...

Agonis flexuosa. WIillow Myrtle Peppermint .Myrtaceae (Myrtle family)

A very attractive, willowy tree that grows to about 30 feet tall with hanging, narrow 6-inch leaves. The crushed leaves are fragrant, much subtler than peppermint.

http://trees.stanford.edu/ENCYC/AGfle.ht...

Agonis flexuosa “The Peppermint Tree,” “Willow Myrtle,” surely fits this pendulous and weeping small tree, for when its foliage is crushed it is like the sweet smell of peppermint candy (yum, yum). This tree grows into a handsome evergreen round-headed tree with distinctive weeping and wispy branches, well-clothed in linear olive green leaves. It is considered a small tree, reaching heights between 25 to 35 feet at maturity.

Dainty white flowers bloom profusely all along the branches in late spring to early summer. The flowers have a tinge of aroma to them, which adds to another quality of the Agonis tree.

Another one of its nice attributes is the interesting and textured dark furrowed bark that ages with time.

It adds interesting character with multiple trunks. When these many trunks are lit for nocturnal enjoyment, it really stands out tucked into a garden setting.

Maybe you are looking for a different variety of this "Agonis" genus ((Myrtle family) ??

Agonis is a small genus of 11 species all of which occur naturally only in south Western Australia. They range from small shrubs to medium-sized trees and most are cultivated to some extent. A.flexuosa is by far the most widely grown as it is adaptable to a range of climates and soils. Numerous cultivars of this species have been released for general cultivation.

I found a collection of MINT Polish stamps. Where can I sell them for the most money?

Recently, I visited my mother to help her clean out her basement. Along the way we found a book full of stamps from Poland (none have ever been used) spanning from the late 50's to the late 70's. These include whole sheets of communist era stamps and olympic stamps and so on. She was going to throw them out but I thought they may be worth something. Where do I turn?

I found a collection of MINT Polish stamps. Where can I sell them for the most money?
Wow. If I had any money I might want to buy them. Don't sell them to a dealer, you'll get a real low price (they need to make a profit). Selling them to a collector is best (if they have the money). EBay, or join an online stamp club. Yahoo has stamp clubs.
Reply:Look for coin dealers/collectors in your city. They usually deal in stamps also. Do some research on your stamps so you will have some idea what they are worth.
Reply:ebay always has the best deals... so try on there because you will get more interested people from around the globe not just in your town, city, or even state.
Reply:Post your items on EBAY,Fix a Reserve price of ,say,10,000 dollars.Let the auction go %26amp; see how the bidding goes.If the reserve is not met, there's no sale. It's a way to get an idea what it's worth to someone
